There are hundreds of Elden Ring weapons. That should be enough to satisfy even the most weapon-hungry among us. Each is assigned to a class, which determines its standard moveset and the Ashes of War that can be used on them. However, each weapon has its own set of stat requirements, which scale differently depending on added damage or special abilities.
The best Elden Ring weapons will hold you deadly as you traverse the Lands Between. Some weapons are designed for melee builds, while others are designed for intelligence builds. If you don’t thoroughly explore, it can be difficult to find a bunch early on.
If you’re new to the world of Elden Ring, having a rough concept of what each weapon is capable of is a good place to start. Even if you’ve been playing for a long, it’s never a bad idea to brush up on your skills.

Elden Ring Weapons

Elden Ring Weapons: Basic
- Claws
- Fists
- Daggers
- Axes
- Flails
- Hammers
- Katanas
- Reapers
- Curved Swords
- Straight Swords
- Torches
- Thrusting Swords
These weapons have a ridiculously short range, minimal stat requirements, and a ridiculously fast attack speed.
Claws are lightning-fast weapons that excel in inflicting Bleed on your foes. The bleed effect tends to stagger most adversaries, despite the fact that they do little Poise damage.
Fists mostly deal blunt damage, which is ideal for dealing with armored foes. They also come with a wide range of damage types.
Daggers have a somewhat greater range than the other two, and they also have high critical damage, thus backstabs and ripostes will cause more damage.
We recommend dual-wielding the Hookclaws. To use these claws, you’ll need eight Strength and fourteen Dexterity. They can be found in one of early rooms in Stormveil Castle past 3 exile soldiers.
The Sword of Night and Flame is one of Elden Ring’s legendary weapons. It’ll easily get you through the majority of the game. It takes twelve points of Strength and Dexterity, as well as twenty-four points of Intelligence and Faith. This can be found at Carian Manor once you’ve completed the second Site of Grace. This weapon’s main appeal is that it deals Magical, Physical, and Fire damage, and its special abilities may easily paralyze bosses or wipe out hordes.
Elden Ring Weapons: Average
If you appreciate melee weaponry but don’t want to be in your opponents’ faces, one of these weapon types might be right for you.
- Spears
- Whips
- Halberds
Spears are great for poking enemies while keeping your shield up, and they work well on horseback. Whips have lower damage than most weapons, but their range is unrivalled among melee weapons.
Halberds are more versatile than spears because they can be used for both thrusting and sweeping attacks, though they are typically slower.

Elden Ring Weapons: Two-handed
- Colossal Swords
- Curved Greatswords
- Greataxes
- Colossal Weapons
- Great Spears
- Greatswords
- Twinblades
- Warhammers
- Heavy Thrusting Swords
If you want to use weapons with high stat requirements and high damage, you’ve come to the right place. Two-handed weapons come in a wide range of styles, weight a lot, and are generally geared toward strength builds.
You don’t have to use these weapons in two hands, but given how high some of the stat requirements are, it’s likely that’s how you’ll learn to use them at first. Twin-Blades are lighter than the other weapons in this section, you’ll usually want to two-hand them because the more fluid combo potential vastly improves your damage output.
Elden Ring Weapons: Range Based
- Bows
- Ballistas
- Greatbows
- Crossbows
- Light Bowslist
You can have a lot of fun with ranged weapons as long as you don’t mind the extra crafting. Ballistas and Greatbows are great for strength-based characters, Crossbows can be fired from the hip fairly well, and Bows and Short bows are both good for more surgical attacks.
The disadvantage of these weapons is that the scaling is never particularly high, so your stats won’t have as much of an impact on the damage you’re doing as they would with other weapons.

Elden Ring Weapons: Magic
- Sacred Seals
- Glintstone Staffs
The magical catalysts to consider. If you want to dabble in sorcery spells, Glinstone Staffs are the way to go, while Sacred Seals allow you to cast incantations. Sorcery spells are governed by intelligence, while incantations are governed by faith. Most schools of magic also have dedicated magical catalysts that significantly increase the damage of spells from that school. Aside from your stats, there’s nothing stopping you from casting any spell you have.
Meteorite Staff Elden Ring
The Meteorite Staff is unique among Elden Ring weapons in that it cannot be upgraded. Fortunately, it already has a S rating on the intelligence scale, so you don’t need to improve it. It requires six Strength and eighteen Intelligence to wield, and it also increases the effectiveness of gravity sorcery spells. This can be found on a body hanging out of a window in some ruins in Caelid’s swamp area.
